What is Belkyra®?

Belkyra® is an injectable treatment designed to permanently reduce fat in targeted areas. It uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring bile acid produced by the liver that aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat.

How does Belkyra® work and who is a good candidate?

Belkyra® is specifically used to target fat under the chin, commonly known as a "double chin." It works by breaking down fat cells, which are then naturally eliminated by the body. Ideal candidates for Belkyra® are those with moderate to severe fat under the chin, often due to genetics, weight gain, or aging. However, it's important to note that this treatment is most effective for fat-related double chins and will not address concerns caused by skin laxity or muscle issues. How many treatments will I need?

Most individuals require at least two treatments, spaced eight weeks apart, to see optimal results. However, depending on the amount of fat and desired results, some people may need three to four treatments, and in some cases, up to six treatments. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they do not return, but changes in weight, aging, and sun exposure may still affect the appearance of the chin area over time.
